Training, Mentoring & Support
We provide informal and formal support systems to our employees from day one. The early days at our firm are made easier by a "buddy system" designed to help navigate unfamiliar territory and "learn the ropes." Later, staff members choose a formal mentor who counsels them about career paths and other professional issues as they progress at the firm.
Mentoring continues in our collaborative environment, as our professionals teach and share information throughout the process of working on daily projects. Continual learning and support helps us maintain our retention rate at an industry high.
Professional Challenge
Cohen & Company has enjoyed a steady growth rate and, therefore, can provide a wide variety of assignments to continually challenge our staff. You will have immediate exposure to clients and, because the size of our clients' organizations vary, we can place a staff accountant in charge of a smaller client within months of graduation. At our firm, you will be debating theory and be involved in real-world accounting, auditing and tax decisions very early in your career.
In addition, we provide opportunities to specialize, for those interested, in a variety of industry and technical areas. This enhances professional development and value to the firm and our clients.
Growth
Our continued growth has created a flexible and dynamic organization that allows employees to lead when they are ready. Staff at all levels are involved in most policy decisions, and non-partners have held key positions in their departments and in practice development.
Office Locations
We are committed to a downtown presence, and believe it is important for any firm expecting to attract the best staff and clients. It is also important to support our downtown economies, and to be near the many major banks, law firms and other professional practices located in the heart of our cities. An urban environment also offers a greater choice of restaurants and entertainment options, which is good for both our staff and our clients.
Camaraderie
We participate in activities and have fun together. And we think that's important to a cohesive workplace. We host social events, like our holiday party, golf outing, family picnic and an April 15 party to celebrate the end of tax season. Members of our firm participate in organized sports, including softball, volleyball and football. We also spend time together outside of work getting to know our colleagues' families and friends.
