A New Experience

Aug 06, 2021

An internship is a very exciting experience. Especially if it is your first time there it is a lot to think about. I remember being really nervous the first week of training and when I first started. Everything was new to me: the people, the work, and even the commute every day.

After my first week of training I still felt like I wasn’t ready to start. I did not know what to do; however, working with a team really helped me out and helped me learn how to do some of the work. Sometimes I would be afraid to ask a question, but everyone at Cohen was always very welcoming with any questions or problems I had during work. I was very grateful that I was able to do this internship in person because it was very helpful to be able to ask someone a question rather than have to set up a meeting online for a small question.

As nice as it was working in the office most days, sometimes there would be days where I did not want to make the drive. After the past year it is easier than ever to work from home. The flexibility of being able to work from home was very nice to have. Although working from home was nice some days, I wouldn’t recommend many interns to do that many days. Being able to go into the office is so helpful, especially as an intern.

Some advice I would have for new interns is to really try to absorb as much new information as possible. Every time a new task is given make sure to take a lot of notes so you can read through them if you’re ever stuck on anything. I also wrote down every question I had and whenever I met with my senior again I could ask them. Lastly, just have fun and enjoy the new experience. Go to the events and happy hours and try to meet as many new people as possible; It really makes the experience very enjoyable.
