No need to Fear anything

As me for and probably a good amount of other interns, I showed up with no experience in any accounting fieldwork. I definitely began to fear that I was going to be so clueless and not know what to do with my first tax return. It’s ok not to know what to do. That’s part of the learning curve that you will go through. Once you finish that first return you will be so surprised by how much you have learned. It’s definitely a little fearful at first, but you learn fast and everyone is so friendly to help out with any problems you run into. Whether it’s a staff accountant, manager, or partner, everyone is available to help you with any concerns you may have.

I certainly feared that I would be completely lost when I began to use the different softwares that the firm uses for their tax returns. I quickly realized that there was no reason to fear. My learning buddy, as well as other staff accountants, are always available to show you how the software works and what shortcuts they’ve learned that were a great benefit to me. One of the great things about Cohen & Company is you get to work with so many other people. You get to work with people from New York, Milwaukee, Youngstown, as well as their other locations. This is such a great experience because you get to interact with new people and begin to network with them. Everyone from the other locations is very friendly and is always willing to help with any problems.

The one thing you don’t have to fear is meeting new people. Cohen & Company has lots of different events to meet new people. Whether it’s the partner dinner during your first week of training, or other events like Top Golf and happy hour after work. You get to meet people in all different departments including Audit, different departments in tax, and advisory. My network has grown so much since I’ve been at the firm. This is why it is such a great place to work at.
