Time Management Advice

One of the most daunting tasks of any internship is time management. As an intern, it is hard to gauge how much work you should have completed at a given time. I remember starting on my first job not knowing if I was taking way too long, or not taking enough time to thoroughly learn the material. One obvious solution to this is to ask your supervisor how much time they feel it should take you to complete a given set of tasks. This allows you to be on the same page as your supervisor and helps you set a benchmark. But what if it is taking longer or much shorter than your benchmark? If you have flown through a job that your supervisor said would take much longer, it is a good idea to go back and really try to understand the big picture of what you just completed. This is a key step to progression and learning. If you are taking much longer than expected, try making a list of problems that you encounter and then move on. Finish as much work as you can and then go back and address the list of problems. If you are still not able to work through these problems, go ask your supervisor for help. This is a test taking strategy that people use to not get hung up on one tricky question. It saves time in the overall scheme of things and allows you to get more work done. I hope these tips were helpful for learning good time management skills!
