My internship at Cohen & Company was an incredible learning experience. The work environment established here in our Hunt Valley office is a complete community feel. Everyone here wants to see you succeed at work and in the classroom. This is demonstrated every day from the staff level all the way to a partner’s willingness to drop anything to help you understand “how and why” we do the things we are working on. Cohen & Company’s flexibility and understanding of a healthy work, school and social life balance is an essential component to what sets them apart from surrounding firms. Throughout your time as an intern, you will be trained efficiently and exposed to various audit assignments. You will be treated as full time staff rather than an intern that just scans papers. One unique aspect at Cohen & Company is the ability to work through an audit by yourself. Working through many different audits allows you to critically think and learn the inner workings of the audit process.

Effective communication is unarguably one of the most important parts of working on a team. A major portion of effective communication is maintaining a calendar that is up to date. With a well-organized calendar, it is easy to create and rework your schedule at any point. Always be sure to let your managers that you are currently working with know where you are with work and any possible schedule changes before leaving at the end of the day.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. When you have given your best attempt on a job and you still don’t understand, just ask for help. No one here wants to see you fail and would be happy to show you how to complete your job. Be sure to take a pen and paper with you so that you can take notes.

Be social. Always allow yourself to meet your coworkers, spark up conversations with new people and attend firm events. This firm has a young energized culture. Throughout your time here, take the time to get involved with Cohen & Company and the firm events. Try to network as much as you can. Your internship experience will be what you make it out to be.
